Saturday 26th May 2007

Weather Not fit for Cricket
Man of the Match P Guilding
Catch of the Match R. Crote
Skipper P Fredericks

The Captain had a cunning plan.  Due to the fact that his team was full of Batsmen, but a little weak on the bowling front he was confident he could chase any total down. So after calling correctly he decided to field. After the first few overs this looked a poor choice as only the home keeper was struggling to cope with Churchdown's bowling.  It is rumoured he had sponsorship from Teflon.  Things only got worse for the skipper as his opener was begging to come off after only bowling 3 overs.  Only vast encouragement (plus he had no one else) ensured Porthos continued to bowl.

The skipper then turned to youth in the form of R Crote but was looking worried as the first 4 balls were all wides.  However Rich got his act into gear and started bowling well.  The skipper kept ringing the changes with accuracy from himself, deception and guile from Howler, variation from Gary Lewis and pace from Dave Mends and finally the wickets started to come Churchdown's way.  Oldlands had set up a solid platform but failed to capatilise and only managed 177 from there 45 overs.

With the rain starting Churchdown's Dave Mends and Gary Lewis opened the innings.  Unfortunately the wicket started to misbehave and the ball was moving around.  Dave was soon back in the pavilion.  Churchdown were slowly scoring the runs but wickets were falling at regular intervals.  Luckily Paul Guilding continued his fine form from the previous Wednesday.  After playing his 1 defensive shot to stop the first ball he proceed to go into dispatching mode, hitting 2 sixes on his way to a very speedy 53.  However inexperienced showed as he holed out with Churchdown still short of 50 runs for victory.  Mike Howells then played a beautifully controlled innings ably supported first by P Scales and then by D Scourfield who was apparently plumb L.B.W with only 3 runs remaining for victory.  This just left Mark Davis a few pressure balls to face before Churchdown won a well planned victory by 4 wickets.
